Six Basswood Country Rounds, Matte Varnish, Clear Gesso, Printer Paper, CSS Life Series Images

Artist Statement:

These six wooden rounds are part of my Life Series, the materials were awarded to me through the Office of Undergraduate Research Grant. These rounds will have CSS paintings transfered onto them by using printer paper, clear gesso, and a wet wash cloth. I plan on layering the rounds with the gesso and then laying my paper with my CSS image on it onto the round and smoothing it out. After it has dried I will take the wet wash cloth and wipe the paper off, and my image will be transfered onto the wooden round. The CSS factor of this concept represents DNA and how we are built using numbers and letters just like my images will be built. The wooden rounds represent how difficult my birthing experience was. The images show the risk I went through during my pregnancy due to my medical condition, but also shows the amount of love I have for my daughter.
